President Joseph N. Boakai has nominated Attorney Cornelia W. Kruah as Liberia’s new Minister of Youth and Sports, pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, via the Executive Mansion’s official Facebook page, signaling a new chapter for the ministry that oversees youth development and national sports programs across the country.Atty. Kruah is set to replace Cllr. Jerror Cole Bangalu, who has been appointed Executive Director of the Liberia Refugee Repatriation and Resettlement Commission (LRRRC).
Cllr. Bangalu’s transition comes in the wake of a highly controversial National County Sports Meet, which was marred by allegations of match-fixing and a series of protests from fans and stakeholders. Following the tournament, he was relieved of his role as the official responsible for national sports teams and events, as the ministry faced growing public scrutiny over the handling of the competition.
If confirmed, Atty. Cornelia W. Kruah will be expected to restore public confidence, strengthen governance in sports administration, and advance the government’s broader youth empowerment agenda.
