Fatumata Barry Becomes Lone Female Liberian Journalist Accredited for AFCON in Morocco

Liberian sports journalist Fatumata Barry has made history as the only female Liberian journalist accredited to cover this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco. She joins four male colleagues—T. Kla Wesley, Michael Solomon, Abdul Jallanzo, and Morris Vicent—on the official media list for the tournament.

Barry’s participation on the continental stage is a major milestone for women in sports journalism in Liberia, showcasing her professionalism, resilience, and rising influence in the field. Her presence in Morocco not only reflects her individual hard work but also signals the growing space being created for Liberian women in sports media.

This achievement is a proud moment for Liberia and an inspiration to young girls who dream of working in football and journalism. As Barry and her colleagues report from AFCON in Morocco, they will be flying the Liberian flag high and strengthening the country’s visibility in African football coverage.
